What is Alzheimer's Disease?

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia, affecting about 5 million men and women in the United States. It is a complex and devastating disease whose causes are still unknown.

The incidence of Alzheimer’s disease increases with age, and it is generally found in people 65 years and older. This disease is rare among people younger than 60. The first symptoms of Alzheimer’s can be confused with normal aging patterns, however, it is not a normal part of aging. Alzheimer’s involves the parts of the brain that control thought, memory, and language.
