Understanding Alzheimer's Disease

Peg

Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurological disorder involving damage to and destruction of brain cells: a condition in which the individual and family affected must relinquish their grasp of the routine order of the world. For individuals with dementia, the familiar is made strange each time their brain attempts to process routine information. The mind discharges its ordinary associations and distinctions, reversing perspectives, questioning some meanings and ignoring other, resulting in impaired judgment, difficulty communicating, confusion, fear and anxiety.
